Cardi B's AMA Performance | Why Your Brand Needs A Team!

Last night, Cardi B performed at the AMA awards and she KILLED IT!

Visually pleasing? Check.

Choreography? Check.

Entertaining? Check.

It was one of, if not the, most memorable performance from her to date. Not only because of her talent and hard-work, but also because of the TEAMwork behind the entire production.

Simply put, her team is IT.

Cardi B’s perpetual wins are because of her talent, as well as the strategy and logistical figureheads in her circle.

As a brand strategist and publicist, I often come in conversation with creatives—particularly, artists—who desire more gigs, press, and overall opportunities. When I tell them about my services, they say they’re interested—but there’s no follow-through. When I inquire about how they’ve gone about accomplishing their aspirations thus far, they express their frustration from working with “friends” who lack the same level of dedication—but there’s no change. Are you guilty of this? Aren’t you tired of the consistent disappointment?

A team is necessary for you, for me, Beyonce, your favorite influencer, next-door neighbor…for anyone to become successful. Regardless of what you do. Period. There aren’t any ifs, ands or buts.

Now before you get hype and set yourself up for unrealistic goals that don’t align with your current level of success, you have to have had put in the work to be ready for a team to support you.

And more importantly, when recruiting a team, it’s important for you to seek people who:

  1. are willing to understand your vision

  2. grow with you, and

  3. push you outside of your comfort zone

Cardi B’s consistent wins are due to her talent matched by the STRATEGY (aka effective and detailed planning) from people like Kollin Carter (her stylist), Patientce (her publicist) her manager, Atlantic Records, booking agent…you see where I’m going with this?

By having individuals fill these roles, Cardi B is able to focus on her creativity and be the face of a brand that is able to:

  1. Create “Big & Memorable” Career Highlights (i.e. Coachella Performance)

  2. Increase Her Visibility Among Her Core Demographic and Beyond (i.e. Amazon Partnership)

  3. Strategically Align Press with Appearances & Control Her Narrative (i.e Jimmy Fallon Performance That Reveals Her Baby Bump)

When you have a good team and strategy, you WILL see the results and continue to win. We all know Cardi isn’t an angel, but her team knows exactly how to overshadow situations that may appear damaging to her career, with moments that remind people of Cardi’s grind and authenticity. Plus, Cardi just works hard; and a solid work ethic will always put you ahead of any adversity.

Never underestimate the value of a team to put you in positions to do and be better. You can’t get to your version of success by yourself. (Shameless plug, if you’re ready to level up in 2016, and put strategy behind your latest creative idea/project/event/etc, book a free, 30-minute discovery call through my agency. Congrats to Cardi and the whole Team of go-getters!
